The Giulia Quadrifoglio is the only sedan in the world to be equipped with an active aero front splitter. This adjustable carbon fiber spoiler is integrated into the front lower fascia. On corners — or when braking — it opens up to provide up to 220 pounds of downforce for optimum balance.

Torque vectoring technology further positions Giulia Quadrifoglio at the top of the segment. This system controls wheel spin by optimizing the power distribution between wheels in traction. So there’s no loss of power— just better traction and control, no matter the speed or road surface.

The first controls Alfa's DNA Pro system, which consist of four different driver selectable modes: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced Efficiency or Race mode, all of which can be used to create a unique driving experience by adjusting the throttle response, turbo boost, suspension and signature exhaust note.

The second rotary dial controls the high resolution industry first hidden 8.8” wide screen infotainment system with real-time vehicle performance pages and telemetry, plus 3D graphic navigation that recognizes hand-written gestures on the top of the rotary pad, allowing the driver to interact with the 3D Navigation system simply by moving fingers on the pad.

It began as a simple request for good luck and ended up becoming a symbol for something even more magical: track records and race victories from Alfa Romeo and the drivers who campaigned them. In 1923, legendary Alfa Romeo race car driver Ugo Sivocci wanted to break a string of secondplace finishes. So to prepare for the legendary Targa Florio race in Sicily, he painted a white square with a “Quadrifoglio”, or four-leaf clover, on the front of his Alfa Romeo RL Targa Florio. And, as luck would have it, he finished in first place. In the same year, Sivocci was track-testing a new car that didn’t yet bear his lucky symbol. Tragically, he crashed and lost his life. And a legend was born.

This marked the beginning of a tradition: all future Alfa Romeo race cars would bear the four-leaf clover on a white triangle — with the missing point symbolizing the loss of Sivocci. Post-World War II, the Quadrifoglio was also used to designate high-performance Alfa Romeo street vehicles like the 1963 Giulia TI Super, the 1965 Giulia Sprint GTA and now, the all-new Giulia Quadrifoglio. Today, Sivocci’s clover remains a symbol of race-worthy capabilities and, of course, a symbol of good luck.

The reverence people hold for Alfa Romeo has only grown with each milestone along the way.

In 1965 Alfa Romeo introduced a great automobile – the Giulia Sprint GTA. The lightweight GTA 1600 (“l’Alleggerita”) was a heavyweight at the races, leaving competitors in its wake race after race.

In 1966 it won 1 European and 9 national championships; in 1967 it clocked up 2 European and 8 national championships. It was the first touring automobile to complete the Nürburgring circuit in less than 10 minutes.

Alfa Romeo 8C

This is the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. It’s as rare and special as any new V12 Ferrari. It’s more powerful than any eight-cylinder Audi R8 or Aston Martin Vantage. It’s one of the most desirable sports cars that Italy has produced in a decade.
There are only 500 Alfa Romeo 8C Competiziones in the world, and exactly 41 in the UK, all currently in private hands. Except this one, which is owned by the Marque II Car Club. And since Marque II has been kind enough to lend it to us, we can now tell you exactly how well it goes down a typical British B-road.

What’s it like?
Such things are subjective, but I don’t know anyone who would describe the Alfa Romeo 8C as anything short of sensational to look at. It’s smaller than you might expect though. With almost no rear overhang, the Alfa Romeo 8C is compact; at less than 4.4 metres long, it’s shorter than most family hatchbacks.
The dizzying excitement of your first moments with the car build when you climb on board. It’s low, with firm leather bucket seats, plenty of Ferrari-shared switchgear, and as many real carbonfibre fascia and door panels as you could conceivably make.
The brassy bark of Ferrari’s dry-sumped, flat-crank, 4.7-litre V8 yelps to a pin-sharp 5000rpm with the merest prod of your toe, and crackles and spits on its way back down to idle. Soundtracks get no more addictive or auspicious than this.
Now select ‘Sport’ mode (this leaves the exhaust bypass valves open, sharpens the throttle response and quickens the VDC stability control system), pull back on the right-hand gearshift paddle and nose out onto an empty road. The quick but heavy steering almost feels unassisted at dawdling speeds; the ride is stiff, unforgiving. There’s not much protection from wind noise, even less from the roar of those massive wheels and tyres. It’s a full-on, prepare-to-earn-your-money supercar driving experience.
From low revs the Alfa Romeo 8C feels brisk, but at about 4000rpm it explodes into full stride, squatting and squirming on its huge rear wheels, and tearing towards the horizon. Pedal response is fantastic, and the car’s brakes feel even more powerful than its engine, even though the pedal positioning means that you do have to left-foot brake for comfort.
The Alfa Romeo 8C’s chassis is at its best on smooth surfaces; over broken ones it’s much more foreboding. There's plenty of traction, but a compromised ride leaves little room for bump absorption.
At the limit, the Alfa Romeo 8C’s balance is a bit erratic too. You’re never 100 per cent sure whether you’ll get understeer or razor-sharp turn-in at any given corner – it’s usually the former if bumps are involved, but not always. The vast dry-weather grip makes the car tricky to adjust on the throttle too.
When the car hooks up and grips, though, it feels marvellous, changing direction with incredible zeal, and rocketing out of corners. Unlike the last dream Alfa, the SZ, this car needs no more power. It actually feels a little like a better-looking, more desirable TVR T350C; short-of-wheelbase, firm, noisy, agile and quick. But a bit unpredictable.
Should I buy one?
Technically, the 8C has been sold out since its first day on sale. A few of the UK’s number are available via specialist dealers as ultra-low mileage pre-registered cars, but at a premium over what was already an incredible price for an Alfa Romeo. Even now, you’ll be asked to pay close to £180,000 for one.
So is this car really worth more than a Ferrari 430 Scuderia? As a piece of automotive artifice, yes. As a properly exciting supercar, maybe. As a thoroughbred machine for fast road driving, unfortunately not.
But if you’d be the sort of owner who’s happy to accept an Alfa instead of a Lamborghini, you’d probably also be open-minded enough to overlook the absence of that final degree of dynamic polish for a car you’re simply in love with.

Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept

After a two year absence from the international scene, Bertone returned to the Geneva Motor Show, unveiling the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept car: an aggressive yet beautiful coupé designed as a tribute to Alfa Romeos’ one hundred year anniversary.
The Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept: an extreme and controversial sports car in typical Bertone fashion. The size of the concept car (4620 mm in length, 1971 mm wide, 1230 mm high, 2850 mm wheelbase) offers a compact sports car external dimensions with a large sports car interior feeling, all powered by a 4.7 litre, 450 CV 8-cylinder Alfa Romeo engine.
The Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept is the first car produced by Mike Robinson in his new role as Design and Brand Director at Bertone. A pure ‘dream car’, the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept takes its rightful place as a member of Bertone's historic Alfa Romeo family: cars that have always been style icons, influencing the history of the automobile and Italian craftsmanship in their excellent design quality, proving themselves to be undisputed benchmarks for the entire world of car design.
The name comes from the animal world, as Pandion Haliaetus is the scientific name for an Osprey: a sea hawk that nests and lives in coastal areas. The designers, led by Mike Robinson, have drawn inspiration from the wings of this predator to invent the spectacular door opening mechanisms, and from the hawks’ facial markings to project the traditional Alfa family feeling into the next era of design.

2010 Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept

In almost a century of Bertone tradition, it is not the first time that natural wonders have inspired the names of concept cars. Just think of the Corvair Testudo (1963) and, by no coincidence, the Alfa Romeo Canguro (1964), Carabo (1968) and Delfino (1983).
Design: the initial concept
The Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept's taut and muscular body is the result of an original interpretation of the Alfa Romeo badge, where the man-eating snake depicted there represents the attraction of elegance (what we call the ‘Skin’), and the aristocratic cross symbolises the rigour of rational thought, the technological aspect (what we call the ‘Frame’). According to this interpretation, the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept's design is, like every Alfa Romeo, a perfect synthesis between ‘Skin and Frame’, an ideal balance resulting from a tension between opposites: technology and sensuality, rationality and instinct, architecture and sculpture, structuralism and organicism, industrial excellence and excellent craftsmanship.
The design of the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept is based on a concept Robinson calls: “Skin & Frame” – a new interpretation of the inherent duality in the 100 year old Alfa Romeo logo. “Skin” refers to the snake in the logo, representing the world renowned Italian excellence in beautiful, seductive forms; and “Frame” refers to the cross in the logo, representing the mechanical excellence in high performance Italian race cars. The combination of the two has now become a dynamic dial searching for an ideal balance resulting from the tension between opposites: technology and sensuality, rational and emotional, architectural layout and sculptural form, structural and organic, industrial excellence and artisan excellence.
According to this interpretation, the vibrant energy in every Alfa Romeo is represented by Pandions’ spinal structure (or ‘Frame’), which crosses the length of the car from the V-shaped grille in the nose of the car to the V-shaped bumper in the tail of the car, crossing the interior as a visually aesthetic structural element which supports the surrounding shell (or ‘Skin’).
Design: details that count
The Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept's front end features a long and sculpted sloping bonnet that creates what is, to all intents and purposes, a mask, almost like the helmets worn by ancient warriors. The Alfa Romeo ‘family feeling’, immediately recognizable at first glance, does not admit even a hint of retro nostalgia and looks to the future with a revolutionary and novel elegance. There is no doubt it's an Alfa Romeo with a look that has never been seen heretofore. The typical Alfa quad headlights are buried deep in the outer-most tips of the T-shaped grille, highlighting the wide stance of the impressive coupé. Four white bars of light strike the observers’ curiosity, two position lights above and two fog lights below, creating a virtual bi-plane of light at night. The typical five horizontal bars on every Alfa Romeo radiator grille are just visible here, offering a reference to the marque's historic identity. The front grille is full of thousands of tiny intertwined blades which contribute to the new Algorithmic Design throughout the car.
The Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept has the profile of a true sports car, with no room for compromise. The architectural layout is ‘cab rearward’, meaning the passenger compartment is positioned towards the rear of the car and the long bonnet pushes the car's visual centre rearward. The body side visually connects the sensuous front end with the razor-edged rear by means of an extremely long flowing side window which stretches from front wheel arch to rear, enhancing the excellent accessibility of this low-bodied sports coupé. Since sports cars are traditionally difficult to get in and out of, this important ergonomic activity has been facilitated with an extra wide door opening to make up for the low roofline. This new graphic formula not only adds a striking new visual division between the upper and lower parts of the body, but it also offers an incredible panorama window for passengers inside. The strong diagonal dark-light division in the rear of the side view accentuates the powerful rear wheel drive layout and draws special attention to the hidden door opening mechanism.
The rear end features a striking array of crystal-like blades which are intertwined in various widths and lengths, protruding out into space. The rear of the car in fact has a disembodied or “pixilated” look, representing a tail-of-the-comet metaphor, as if the sheer speed of the vehicle is pulling the underlying, technical “Frame” rearward, away from the sensuous, flowing “Skin” above. This “dematerialization” phenomenon of the car is generated by the intrinsic motion of the form, which means the car looks like it is moving even when it is standing still.
There are also two small fixed white shields below the rear bumper which hold the quad tailpipes, creating a visual continuation of the white side panels which seem to wrap around under the car.
The taillights are fully integrated into the organic tangle of the blades and disappear when turned off. The new Alfa Romeo family feeling is again visible in the rear of the car with same V-shaped bumper found on the front of the vehicle, which the travels the entire length of the body, forming a powerful virtual, Alfa Romeo backbone.
The doors, as in many other Bertone-designed masterpieces (such as the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo, the 1970 Lancia Stratos 0, the 1972 Lamborghini Countach, and the 2007 Fiat Barchetta), open in a visually striking manner. Virtually hinged around the axis of the rear wheel, the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept doors open by rotating backwards, ending up a perfect 90 degrees above the center of the rear wheel, lifting up the entire body side of the vehicle, from the front fender to the rear fender. When fully open they are more than 3.6 metres high. This spectacular solution is design mainly for glamour, bringing back the “wow” factor to today's lackluster automotive industry. This futuristic door mechanism also has a pragmatic side as well. Since all ‘extreme’ sports cars are literally impossible to get in and out of, the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept is designed to utilize the horizontal space in the car since the vertical space is so limited.
In the event of an accident that results in a ‘roll-over’, the doors detach from the car body so that the passengers can exit of the car.
The interior: minimalist glamour
The shapes that make the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept spring to life are the result of a design study aimed at creating an organic whole, without resorting to short-cuts to ensure continuity between the interior and exterior, a perfect balance between architectural rigour and the spectacular shapes of living organisms.
The design language used to create the passenger compartment has resulted in a fluid environment, due to the fittings that seem to have grown spontaneously, without ever having been either designed or constructed. We have named this expressive code, never seen before in the automotive sector until today, algorithmic design. The concept, taken from the world of mathematics, indicates an organic alternative to traditional design and is the ‘propagation of random forms’. It is as if the design were following a kind of complex development which is neither linear nor geometric, generating an ‘auto-organising’ shape, with the ‘spontaneous growth’ of algorithms such as ‘swarms’ or ‘vines’.
When observing the interior of the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept, the first things that draw our attention are the front seats. The car's layout is typical of Alfa Romeo coupés, i.e. 2+2. While the two rear seats are the classic ‘extra spaces’, the front seats are two incredibly thin (30 mm) ergonomic chaise longue chairs. They have carbon fiber shells (that mimic the style of the car's exoskeleton or ‘skin’) covered in Technogel® and backlit with reLIGHT® fabric, that conforms to the shape of the driver's or passenger's body. The principle that inspired the designers was that of ‘zero gravity’, i.e. a warm and welcoming environment that would convey a sensation of enhanced quality of life inside at first sight, but… with zero gravity.
In fact, all the furnishings inside the passenger compartment all tend to float visually, suspended in the magic of the blue light. Behind these minimalist choices however lies a careful study of ergonomics: the seats are the result of a perfect synthesis between high performance, flexibility and lightness. The clear floor is illuminated in the same “swimming pool blue” color of the seats, offering a spectacular visual continuation of the voluptuous seats, with its’ flowing contours where the driver and passenger can feel protected in a truly glamorous shell.
The steering wheel is clearly that of a sports car, while the controls are similar to those of Alfa Romeo race cars, with two analogue dials placed directly on the steering column. Three of the four LCD screens offer a rear view inside the passenger compartment (two on the sides, one on the windscreen) and they are directly connected to the external video cameras that substitute the rear view mirrors normally placed outside the car. The larger screen placed in the centre (9”), in the middle of the console – and within reach of the passenger as well as the driver – also displays information on the car's systems (air conditioning, sound systems, Sat Nav, etc…).
‘We are walking in the footprints of giants.’ That is the Bertone company motto. The giants referred to are Giovanni and Nuccio Bertone. However, following in their footsteps does not mean copying them, on the contrary. It means applying their teachings and using them as guidelines for further advances. We ask our designers to follow a total creative method, where they observe phenomena that are apparently unrelated to each other and try to apply them to the automotive world.
However design research is not enough. At Bertone we study concepts, and therefore each design is the result or a spinoff of an innovative idea or a new phenomenon. Mike Robinson, Design & Brand Director at Bertone, comments: ‘Cars are like films: they must tell a story to win people over. The best car designers are necessarily excellent narrators and their products, whether they are concept cars or mass-produced products, reflect their creators’ ability to gather fascinating ideas from every field, from all over the world, to bring them together and transform them into new and great stories. This is what we have attempted to do with the Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept.’

Alfa Romeo Stelvio predstavljen u Los Angelesu

Dugoočekivani Alfa Romeo Stelvio konačno je predstavljen na salonu u Los Anglelesu, a kao i Giuliu prije njega, upoznali smo ga prvo u najsnažnijoj verziji Quadrifoglio Verde sa 510 KS.

Automobil je ime dobio po slavnom planinskom prijevoju u talijanskim Alpama, a brojna dizajnerska rješenja dijeli s Giulijom. Vanjskim dimenzijama od 4680 mm dužine, 2160 mm širine i 1650 mm visine kompaktni se SUV upušta u žestoku borbu s Porscheom Macanom i Mercedesom GLC. Unutrašnjost je minimalistički uređena i fokusirana na vozača, a u verziji QV kombinira tkaninu, drvo i karbon. Na središnjoj konzoli dominira 8,8-inčni ekran, slično kao i kod Giulije.

Sličnosti s limuzinom protežu se duboko ispod lima jer Stelvio koristi jednako aluminijsko podvozje kao i 2,9-litreni V6 motor od 510 KS. Mjenjač je ZF-ov osmostupanjski automatik za koji Alfa Romeo kaže kako u načinu rada Race može promijeniti stupanj za 150 milisekundi. Kako bi lakše ukrotili toliku snagu, Stelvio ima karbonsko-keramičke kočnice.

Pogon je na sve kotače, a najsnažniji model QV posjeduje i tehnologiju vektoriranja momenta. U normalnim uvjetima vožnje Stelvio 100 posto momenta prenosi na stražnje kotače, ali sustav Q4 stalno prati raspodjelu momenta između prednje i stražnje osovine. Po potrebi, do 50 posto momenta može prenijeti na prednje kotače. Između stražnjih kotača moment se može optimalno rasporediti zahvaljujući dva kvačila na stražnjoj osovini.

Pored 2,9 twin turbo V6 motora Alfa Romeo potvrdio je kako će se u Stelvio ugrađivati i dvolitreni turbo benzinac sa 200 ili 280 KS, kao i dvije verzije 2,2-litrenog turbodizelaša od 150 i 180 KS. Podatak o težini Stelvia nije objavljen, ali Alfa se pohvalila rasporedom mase između osovina od 50:50.

Prijeratni trkaći model Alfa Romea plod je suranje Alfe sa Scuderijom, a prema mišljenju mnogih riječ je o najljepšem trkaćem modelu svog doba. Bolid bit će ponuđen na aukciji u Parizu, a očekivana cijena iznosi oko 4,6 milijuna eura

 Mitska talijanska marka Ferrari proizvodi svoje automobile i natječe se na utrkama sada već gotovo 70 godina. Ipak, negdje je i trebalo početi. Scuderia je svoj početak ostvarila upravo zahvaljujući suradnji sa Alfom Romeo koji je dotad već harao trkalištima. Model ponuđen na aukciji upravo je plod te suradnje. Riječ je o Alfi Romeu Tipo B P3 proizvedenom 1934. godine.

Ovaj primjerak drugi je od samo devet primjeraka koji ujedno ima i bogatu trkaću povijest. Bio je ujedno i jedan od prvih trkaćih automobila sa jednim sjedištem. Za prekrasan dizajn zaslužan je Vittorio Jano, a mnogi se slažu kako je riječ o najljepšem trkaćem modelu svog doba. Motor je 2,9-litreni sa dva mehanička kompresora.

Prošlo je gotovo 10 godina otkad je ovaj model zadnji put bio ponuđen na aukciji, a potencijalni kupci moći će sudjelovati na aukciji koja će se održati u Parizu početkom sljedeće godine. Iz aukcijske kuće RM Soethby’s procjenjuju kako bi se ponude mogle kretati između 3,6 i 4,6 milijuna eura.
